Mike’s love of woodworking began at an early    age.  Growing up in the Northwest Florida panhandle Mike built wooden forts, tree houses, skateboards and skim boards.  At age thirteen, Mike won his first art contest for a wood carving.  Mike was also influenced by his father who always worked with wood building things or adding additions to the family home.

Mike began woodturning in 2009.  He learned woodturning through mentoring, reading books, watching demonstrations and visiting web sites on wood and woodturning.  The critiques, tips and advice received from my fellow wood turners were extremely helpful.

Wood turner Mike Veal specializes in the creation of high quality wooden bowls, small to large.  Mike works with a variety of woods local to the Southeast USA.  All bowls are individually shaped and many can be used on a functional basis.

Mike’s work is marketed in gift shops and galleries in the Northwest Florida area.  He is a member of the American Association of Wood turners and the Artistic Wood turners of Northwest Florida
